Melli Mortlock

Melli Mortlock is a photo - and video journalist, writer and globetrotter, based in Europe. Her photos and articles have been featured in international print publications, such as Qantas Inflight Magazine, Crystal for Crown Resorts, On the Move and My Lombok Magazine.

On the web, her writings have appeared on renowned sites for fans of music, culture, arts, travel, yoga and sports. She landed the Editor-in-Chief role for the 1st edition of Surf Sri Lanka Magazine which resulted in a 200-pages publication in the style of a coffee-table book.

Melli’s inspirations and story ideas are endless. Colourful assignments which encompass timely and high-quality content. Her greatest catalysts? People with a passion. Raw nature. Sustainability. The look behind-the-scenes. Immersion. Travels off-the-beaten-tracks. And the art of coffee; but let’s get to that later ..

Melli’s career started in her vibrant hometown Berlin, Germany where she covered the city’s cultural scene for TV and Print Media. For the European Year of Volunteering she was honoured to represent Germany as a reporter for European-wide projects. Her focus was on environmental issues, Skate-aid charity for children in war zones and nature preservation. (A memorable aspect was meeting the other 26 reporters from each EU-country)

Her Communications and Journalism studies took her to Sydney, Australia for 4 years of university. A long-time fascination with the Italian culture and cinema lead her to studies of Italian language and culture, followed by travels to the Mediterranean, mainly Sicily.

After documenting life and travels in South East Asia, Melli ventured out to Central and Latin America. She has spent the last 4 years in Mexico and Colombia. Her passion for coffee coincided with a family-farm connection. She co-initiated a farm project alliance in Colombia. The need for transformation was as high as mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta itself. Besides coffee production, there is also a small school on the farm which Melli and her partner are looking into supporting. The collaboration continues, also from the distance.

While Melli is currently living in Portugal, she continuously provides creative content on cultural topics and her many adventures (sketchbook in tow) around the globe.
